Matcha tips & tricks
Matcha is a finely ground powder made from green tea leaves that have been shade-grown to increase their chlorophyll content. It has been enjoyed in Japan for centuries and has gained popularity around the world in recent years due to its numerous health benefits and delicious taste. Making matcha may seem intimidating at first, but with a few tips and tricks, you can create a perfect cup of matcha every time.
Choose high quality matcha
The quality of your matcha is the most important factor in making a delicious cup. Look for high-quality matcha that is bright green in colour, has a fine texture, and smells fresh. Avoid matcha that is yellowish or brown in colour, as it may be old or low quality. Our matcha is 100% organic and characterised by a stunning vibrant green, not to mention its amazing smell.
Use the right tools
Yes! It might sound absurd but the right tools will help you enhancing the flavour of matcha and unlock all its precious benefits. You will need specific tools: a chawan (tea bowl), a chasen (bamboo whisk), a chashaku (bamboo spoon) and a sifter. Using those tools will ensure that your matcha has a frothy and smooth texture.
Sift your matcha
Before preparing your matcha, sift it through a fine-mesh strainer to remove any clumps. This will ensure that your matcha is smooth and free of lumps.
Use the right amount of matcha and water
The ideal ratio for matcha is 1g of matcha powder to 2 ounces (60ml) of water. However, you can adjust the amount of matcha and water to suit your preferences. It is important to measure your matcha and water accurately to achieve a consistent flavor and texture.
Use hot (not boiling) water
The ideal temperature for matcha is between 160 and 180°F (70-80°C). Boiling water can scorch the delicate matcha leaves and create a bitter flavor. To achieve the perfect temperature, heat your water in a kettle or on the stove, and then let it cool for a minute or two before adding it to your matcha.
Whisk vigorously in a zipzag motion
To create a smooth, frothy texture and help distribute the powder, whisk your matcha vigorously in a zigzag motion with your chasen.
Enjoy your matcha right away
Matcha is best enjoyed immediately after it is prepared. As it sits, the frothy texture will start to dissipate and the flavor may become bitter. So, be sure to savor your matcha right away.
By following these tips and tricks, you can create a perfect cup of matcha every time. Experiment with different ratios and methods to find the perfect flavor and texture for you. Whether you enjoy it as a traditional tea ceremony or in a modern latte, matcha is a delicious and healthy drink that is sure to delight your senses.
Enjoy! :)
